I’ll use Fedora LiveUSB Creator. Download the latest version.
1. Install Fedora LiveUSB Creator, double click .exe file
For Fedora LiveUSB Creator, I’ll use boot.iso file,
if you use Fedora 15, first download boot.iso file from this link:
x86 platform: http://mirror.optus.net/fedora/linux/releases/15/Fedora/i386/os/images/boot.iso
x86_64 platform: http://mirror.optus.net/fedora/linux/releases/15/Fedora/x86_64/os/images/boot.iso
Connect your USB Flash Disk, and run Fedora LiveUSB Creator.
Now click Browse and select your boot.iso (x86 or x86_64 platform)
Fedora LiveUSB Creator will automatically detect USB Flash Disk drive ID (if auto detect not correct click drop-box in Target Device and select drive ID/Name)
Last step click Create Live USB and wait until finish
After finish, close Fedora LiveUSB application and copy your Fedora ISO file (Fedora-15-i386-DVD.iso or Fedora-15-x86_64-DVD.iso), or you can use your harddisk to install Fedora 15 from ISO file without burn this ISO to DVD.
My Flash Disk will be like this:
Restart your computer and use USB for first boot option (usually press F12, in my Lenovo G450 laptop), choose to boot from USB Flash Disk,
when Fedora 15 grub screen appear, select the first line and press TAB, add “askmethod” at the end of this line and press ENTER to start Fedora 15 installation.
“askmethod” parameter will ask you which method you will use for install Fedora 15. You can view all available options for Anaconda at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Anaconda/Options.
Because we use ISO file in Flash Disk, when installation method appear, select Hard Drive and path for ISO file.
Thank you for the guide lines. I have followed the instructions step by step, for Fedora-15-i386-DVD.iso file but am getting the message that the image file is not accessible. My USB drive is not showing any EFI folder. The image file worked with other applications.
regards
could you tell to me, in which step you get error?
for create usb installation process success or failed?
if you get image file not accesible when you install Fedora, the problem maybe you type wrong path for image file.
I think EFI folder just for x64 ISO, because you use i386 so not showing in your usb.
On further trials the USB worked when the Boot from USB is selected and
askmethod is not entered. The trouble is that the system wants a live
internet connection before install. I am not in a position to provide the
connection. This is not needed when I install from the DVD
regards
If system ask for internet connection before install, this mean your path for ISO file is wrong,
I also experience this before, because I input wrong path for ISO file when system ask the path for ISO.
Please make sure you type the correct path for your ISO file location when ask method from installation ask about this.
because you not add ask method when start installation, system will automatically detect this online install, that’s why ask you for internet connection.
Thank you for your guide lines, I followed them carefully, but when I was installing with Fedora-15_i386, after clicking customize now and selecting the required packages for installation and clicking next, a dialog box saying that “The file lxsession-edit-0.1.1-5fc15.i686.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt fackage or corrupt media. Please verifiy your installation source.” And exiting installer. If I restart installation process by deselecting some packages then the same problem is repeating by saying some other package is missing.
Please tell me how do I complete the installation.
Looks like your ISO file is broken. Can you try to check the CHEKSUM from your .iso file?
you can refer to here: http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/15/html/Burning_ISO_images_to_disc/sect-Burning_ISO_images_to_disc-Validating_the_Files.html
If CHECKSUM is correct, than maybe process copy from media to USB have a problem, try to re-copy again t USB, after that you try to check CHEKSUM value for iso file in USB.
hey is this method is also applicable for fedora 16?? I copied my fedora 16 i386 iso to the root directory of my pendrive.it shows there as sdb. when i tried to show the installer the path of my pendrive. it shows please enter your driver disk.what can i do?? my pendrive is 8gb kingmax.
should be same method for Fedora 16. I think your path should be sdb1 or something liket that, not sdb.
quick update:
in Fedora 17 askmethod option has been obsolete. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Anaconda_Boot_Options
in F17 you can use option: repo=hd::/ or inst.repo=hd::
